We won’t stand silently by.
One in three people are survivors of sexual assault. But not all make it. One woman or girl will be killed by an intimate partner or family member every 11 minutes.
The Bonobo Principle
Bonobos have a unique social order in which females protect one another from male aggression. It’s a model human society can apply, systems of governance can integrate, and women and girls everywhere can use to unleash their power as a unified force. What the research about bonobos says:
Bonobos, like chimpanzees, are our closest evolutionary cousins, sharing 98.7% of human DNA.
Yet they have a remarkably different social order in which females protect one another from male sexual aggression, and have eliminated it evolutionary!
When a female bonobo senses she is in danger, she lets out a cry.
Other female bonobos respond immediately regardless of whether they know her, like her, or have any prior relationship with her.
Female bonobos stand up for and support one another by providing support and protection,
Bonobos act on the Bonobo Principle, and we should too.
Why this matters
As the data shows– and too many of our lived experiences prove– sexual violence cannot be ignored.
